Bill Gates Speech in Athens
On the 28th of January I was given an invitation by the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises for the speech of Bill Gates, yes the famous Bill Gates in the Athens Concert Hall. Mr Gates made a speech on innovation and entrepreneurship in the content of the new deal between Microsoft and the whole public sector. The speech was quite fast pace with many references to Microsoft and its products as well as an attempt to present Microsoft as the leader of innovation.
It might be true that at its first stages the enterprise did offer a lot to the world but since then a lot have changed and we see everyday people just accepting the software Microsoft produces just because there are branded “Microsoft”.
To the subject, he mentioned that the future must be based on education, structures, software, broadband network and incubators for the risky-open minded people. He also mentioned that Greece has made steps but is lacking on important sectors of development. No wonder about that. Since Greek Universities still operate will long past mentality and there is no connection to the business market. No push is given to the entrepreneurs and no actual consultation or guidance is provided by any actor.
I wasn’t really impressed to tell you the truth and despite all the high stature participants nothing good came out of it.
We (Greeks) pay for something that can be done with less cost and more efficiency. Nevertheless, it was nice seeing a successful personality making a speech to local idiots who understand only half of what he is referring to.
Adios
